St Johns won a prestigious marketing award from the BCSC for Community Relations at the annual Purple Apple Awards Dinner held at the Horticultural Halls, London on 6th May. The Purple Apple Merit was received by Carol Cooper, Marketing Manager, for the Liverpool Music Quest.
Primary schools across Liverpool were invited by Clayton Square and St Johns Shopping Centres, Juice FM and the Prince’s Foundation for Children & The Arts to take part in 2008’s ‘Music Quest’, to write, produce and perform their very own song for Capital of Culture year. Music Quest is a national programme encouraging participation and creativity in the arts, and is run in conjunction with the Prince’s Foundation for Children & The Arts.
The winning entry, chosen from the best ten entries, was from Our Lady and St Swithins Catholic Primary School in Croxteth. The final ten schools were chosen to record their songs in professional studios, and then put the songs were put onto CD’s to be sold to raise money for school funds. Our Lady and St Swithins also won the right to design the CD cover.
On Friday 30th January the children and teachers were presented with a gold disc in recognition of their triumph . DJ’s from 107.6 Juice FM’s Breakfast Show presented the award, ahead of the kids performing their winning track at a Prince’s Foundation Event next month when they will be whisked off to London to perform their track alongside 40 other schools from across the country involved in Arts and Kids projects.
Carol Cooper, Marketing Manager for St Johns and Clayton Square said:
“There were some fantastic songs from schools across Merseyside, but the children at Our Lady and St Swithins Primary School were worthy winners of the Music Quest competition. The gold disc was presented to the school in recognition of their hard work in writing, performing and producing a wonderful song for Capital of Culture. Everyone at St Johns and Clayton Square shopping centres is delighted to be involved in supporting the competition”
Sandra Hamilton, Music Co-Ordinator from Our Lady and St Swithins said:
“All the children, parents and local community are very pleased and excited for our St Swithin's stars. The parents are all saying they always knew Croxteth had talent!
We’ve had such a busy few weeks! We were invited along with Juice to sing at the switching on of the Christmas lights in Kirkby, we have also sung our song before the Lord Mayor, Civic guests from Aintree Hospital and at our school Christmas Advent assemblies. To make our Christmas schedule even busier we also sang our song ‘Liverpool Rainbow’ at the annual Croxteth Carol Concert which was arranged by St Swithin's this year and held at Bosco CLC. It was then that we realised, when we go to London we will not be just singing as St Swithin's school but as representatives of the children of Croxteth and Liverpool.”
Each year the Arts and Kids programme is supported by St Johns and Clayton Square Shopping Centres in Liverpool city centre and this year 107.6 Juice FM have lent their support to make the most of the musical theme.
