Planning Permission Passed for New Look Centre
Date: 10 Jul 2008
The owners of St Johns, Land Securities, have now gained planning permission to begin work on their exciting plans for Liverpool’s largest covered shopping centre to the general public.
A purpose built Marketing Suite, located on the upper mall in St Johns and open between 10am and 4pm during weekdays will be used to share the major refurbishment proposals for St Johns with the general public. Tenants and members of the public will be invited to give their feedback on the plans.
The latest images of the proposals which can be seen in the Marketing Suite show a new, updated centre with double height shopping malls, more natural light and a new Food Terrace overlooking Clayton Square. The extensive refurbishment will also include new flooring, lighting and toilet facilities as well as improvements to be carried out in partnership with Liverpool City Council to public areas around the Centre. St Johns Market will be re-located to a purpose built, 21st century Market Hall situated on Williamson Square with the entire works expected to be completed in May 2012. The centre will continue to operate throughout the refurbishment works.
Nick Davis, Retail Development Director for Land Securities, added: “St Johns is a long established shopping centre in Liverpool and has always been popular amongst shoppers. Last year alone the Centre had 20 million visits. The centre is however showing signs of its age and we are hoping to undertake a comprehensive programme of refurbishment. The proposals will give the centre a new look inside and out, providing a modern shopping environment for Liverpool City Centre. Land Securities is committed to consultation with local people and we are keen to know what people think of our proposals.”
